Hand study

Fine-Art (Sculpture) - Bristol (University of the West of England) 2000.

Materials: Steel, Wood, Red clay, Vinyl, Micro-crystalline wax, Paraffin wax & Crayon.

A rigid, welded steel armature is constructed to support the clay sculpture.

A mold is made with a Plaster of Paris jacket..

Melted vinyl is poured into the plaster jacket. This flexible inner core captures the detail of the clay hand.

Once the clay hand is removed fro the mold, a pigmented mix of micro-crystaline and paraffin wax is painted into the 2 halves of the mould. The 2 parts are then joined.
